People book the 9-Point Grand Tour expecting a "jet ski experience". They get a logistics operation. There's nothing magical about a day on the water — it's planned, timed, and very deliberately structured so that 9 stops fit into 4 hours without anyone feeling rushed.
Here's how one Sunday went last month, minute by minute. We'd love to claim some Sundays are different. Most aren't.
8:15 AM — hotel pickup, Patong
The minibus picks up four people from three hotels in Patong over 25 minutes. Karon group already collected. Kata next. By 8:55 we have 11 riders in the bus and a 35-minute drive to Ao Por Marina on the east coast.
9:30 AM — briefing at the marina
Coffee, water, sun cream on the bench. Guide walks through the controls — throttle, kill switch, hand signals. Walk-around with timestamped photos of every jet ski's condition (this is the damage-insurance compliance step). Lifejackets clipped, dry bags packed with passport copies and phones, briefing on the route.
The 11 riders today are: two couples in their 30s, a family of three with a 14-year-old, a group of four lads on a stag trip, and a solo Australian.
10:05 AM — engines start
Six jet skis launch in single file behind the lead guide. First five minutes are slow — 10–15 km/h — to let everyone settle. The water is glass-flat. By 10:15 the group is at cruising speed, around 35 km/h, and the first island is in sight.
10:20 AM — Stop 1: Phrae Island
A small uninhabited rocky outcrop. Photo stop, no beaching. The guide rounds the island once, group follows, then we're off again. 7 minutes total.
10:35 AM — Stop 2: Naka Noi (Small Naka Island)
Beach the skis. Eight-minute swim and beach break. The 14-year-old immediately runs into the water. The Australian solo rider chats to the stag group. Photos.
10:55 AM — Stop 3: Naka Yai (Big Naka Island)
Longer beach stop here — 20 minutes. There's a beach café (we're not affiliated with it — feel free to buy a coconut, it's ฿80). Snorkelling on the reef break west of the beach. Most riders swim, two stay with the skis for shade.
11:30 AM — Stop 4: Monkey Island
The famous one. The wild monkey colony lives on the rocks above this small beach. We give the briefing: no feeding, no bag-opening, don't put a child near them. The 14-year-old gets a monkey on his shoulder. His mother takes 47 photos.
Every 9-Point tour for the last 18 months, someone gets a monkey on their shoulder. We've stopped pretending it's a surprise.
12:00 PM — Stop 5: Ao Por Marina (re-stop)
Quick re-fuel and bathroom break at the original launch marina. 10 minutes only. This is the halfway pivot.
12:30 PM — Stops 6, 7: Rang Yai and Rang Noi
Two more small uninhabited islands, 15 minutes each, photo and swim. The water here is the clearest of the day — visibility about 6 metres.
1:15 PM — Stop 8: Mali Island for buffet lunch
The longest stop. 45 minutes. Beach buffet — rice, stir-fries, grilled chicken, fruit, sometimes massaman curry depending on the cook's mood. The Australian gets seconds. The 14-year-old eats fruit only.
2:05 PM — Stop 9: Mangrove forest entrance
A slow cruise into a mangrove channel. No swimming — too shallow, too many oysters on the roots. Just a quiet 8-minute glide through Phuket's eastern mangroves. Then back to the marina.
2:25 PM — return to Ao Por
Engines off. Rinse the salt. Photos uploaded to the group's WhatsApp by the guide. Minibus back to Patong / Karon / Kata. Hotels by 4:30. Sunburn comparison. Repeat.
Total water time: about 3 hours 15 minutes. Total day, hotel to hotel: 8 hours. That's the maths the brochures don't show you.
