We don't run ATV trips. But we get asked about them constantly — usually by half a couple who wants the jet ski day and half who's looking for an alternative. Here's the honest summary.
What an ATV trip in Phuket is
You ride a quad bike (250cc or 450cc, your choice) along jungle trails inland from Patong or Karon. Most operators run 1-hour, 2-hour, and 4-hour packages. Typical price range is ฿1,500–฿3,500 per person, much cheaper per head than a jet ski tour.
The trails go through rubber plantations, viewpoint stops, sometimes a waterfall, and most include a stop at one of the older Big Buddha viewpoints. The 4-hour version usually adds a Buddhist temple stop and a Thai lunch.
Honest pros and cons
- ✅ Cheaper per person than a jet ski tour
- ✅ Quicker — 2 hours is a real option, the shortest jet ski tour we run is 2.5 hours and most are 4
- ✅ Less weather-dependent (light rain doesn't stop the ATV; we cancel jet ski tours in 25+ knot winds)
- ✅ Better for travellers who get motion-sick on water
- ❌ Dustier than you'd think. Wear sunglasses, a scarf or buff over your mouth
- ❌ Higher injury rate per hour than jet ski tours (operator data, anecdotal — the trails have rocks)
- ❌ Insurance varies wildly between operators — read the waiver
The ATV is for the day you want adrenaline cheap. The jet ski is for the day you want to come home with the photos.
Who we'd recommend
We work with two ATV operators we'd send a friend to — both off Soi Bang Wad in Kathu (close to our minibus pickup zone, so combinable with a jet ski tour). Both are licensed, insured, and use serviced fleets. We don't take commission on either — they're recommendations, not affiliate links.
Message us on WhatsApp at +66 95 483 3119 and we'll send you the names. We don't put them on the website because they don't pay to be on it — but a sensible recommendation costs us nothing and helps you.
Combining ATV + jet ski in one trip
This is the sweet-spot itinerary for a 3-day Phuket visit. Day 1: jet ski tour (we'd say the 9-Point, but the Monkey Island Route is also great). Day 2: ATV trip in the morning, beach afternoon. Day 3: rest, fly home.
That sequence gives you adrenaline + photo morning, then a relaxed land morning, then recovery. We've sent dozens of riders through it.
If you're choosing only one — pick the jet ski. The ocean is what makes Phuket. The ATV is fun, but so is an ATV anywhere else in the world. You came here for the water.
